Dani Dimon is a multimedia artist and photographer living and creating in Eastern Pennsylvania. Dani earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited their work in galleries in Delaware, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Chicago, and is both proud and excited to be a featured artist in The Art Gallery of Alberta's Celebration of Contemporary Photography in 2024. Her photography practice features both diary-style slice of life imagery as well as self portraiture. On a quest for softness and quiet moments, Dani strives to craft honest narratives on both sides of the lens about how ironically harrowing yet uniquely whimsical that quest can be.
In contrast with the intense, virality-seeking means of image based consumption, my photography practice lives in the gentle, quiet moments. Using both 35mm and medium format films, I strive to capture and preserve the tenderness that often gets missed or overshadowed by the cacophony of life today. Most of the time, this looks like going on long walks or drives with my camera, bringing it with me while I run errands, or photographing daily tasks that are often deemed inconsequential. This allows me to both document my surroundings as well as turn the lens on myself and craft self portraits with the same tone. This process has resulted in a collection of works that read as both a visual diary and an exploration of self. It is my hope that this diary isn't just my own, but rather one that can be used as a hand-hold for anyone who wishes to reacquaint themselves with their own moments of softness both in their lives and within their personhood. And if they are unable, they are welcome to share mine.
