I began shooting self-portraits in 2006, the same time that I was returning to photography after dabbling in it as a teenager. My self-portrait work was my learning laboratory and soon after became my primary form of expression. That consideration has taken me into an abandoned series that spans my career, and daily self-portraits that keep me tethered. All of my work explores themes of aging, womanhood, and our notions of self on a broad scale, while also diving inward to explore my own grapplings with depression, fear, acceptance and grief as I move through this world. My daily series for the past several years have used self-imposed parameters. The year 2023, for example, were all long exposures, black & white, and square format.
