My partner’s diabetic equipment was stolen in transit and replaced with a car fuel filter. I sculpted an imagined head of a medical official and smashed it.
Born in Moscow in 1991, Sonya Bogdanova is a Chicago-based artist and educator working with sculpture, painting, and performance. Through her practice, Bogdanova objectifies and defiles representations of the ruling class. She is an MFA Candidate in Studio Arts (2021) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute in 2012. Selected exhibitions include work at Co-Prosperity Sphere (Chicago), Flatland (Chi), Art-in-Place for CNL Projects/Terrain Exhibitions (Chi), YorkExplore (York, UK), and Silvia Rivera Law Project (New York). Bogdanova received the Art Department Scholarship from UIC (2019-2021). She was an artist-in-residence at Jiwar Foundation in Barcelona (2015) and is now an artist-in-residence at Holly and the Neighbors (2021)
